Abstract
The Geriatric Mental State, a semi-structured psychiatric interview and its computerised diagnostic system, AGECAT was developed by the US/UK Diagnostic Project. It has been applied to large-scale epidemiological studies for the elderly. It can be most applicable to the epidemiological study and the case finding device of Dementia in community.
In this study translation and training procedure of GMS A3 version is presented. The concurrent validity of GMS in Korean version has also been studied by calculating agreement (Kappa Value) between psychiatrists according to the DSM III-R with exclusion criteria. 30 psychiatric inpatients were selected as sample for this validity test. Interviews were accomplished by 3 trained interviewers - 2 Psychiatrists and / 1 Non-Psychiatrist - in each rater group. Independent clinical diagnosis for each subejct were obtained by psychiatrist and their intake diagnostic conference procedures.
The results were as follow;
1. The Kappa Value of agreement between psychiatrists on the GMS was 0.49 (Concordance rate was 80 %).
2. Over all Kappa Value for the agreement between GMS and Psychiatrists¢¥ clinical Diagnosis was 0.48 (Concordance rate was 76.7 %) and that for each rate-group was 0.27 (Concordance rate was 70 %). In comparison with other studies, this shows rather low. rather low.
3. The concordance rate of agreement between Psychiatrists on the GMS was 82.26%
